Fir Vale School -Sculpture trail School case study
In 2005 during the development of a artwork for a sculpture trail with Fir Vale School, a group of young peopleworked with Sheffield artist Robin Dobson to develop figures exploring posture and balance using clay. Each young person created their own figure which later became characters in creative narratives. This inspired the theme for the installed ‘Drag or dream’ artwork and the artwork and ‘Drag or dream’ metaphor was later referenced by the newly appointed Head teacher during her first address to parents of the school.

Herdings Park Sculpture Trail
(Phase 1)
Working with local friends of groups and Sheffield Wildlife Trust meetings were arranged with the local groups to discuss ideas for the park . During meetings the local history group discussed herdings past and a ‘farming and barrage balloon’ theme was chosen for the entrance gateway. During creative workshops organised with Valley Park local school, the farm theme evolved into designs for a ‘cow’, and by referencing Manchester’s recent ‘Cow Parade’ the young people were inspired to produce bold graphic detailing for the finished artwork. The project allowed all generations to make a contribution to the final artwork, engendering a sense of empowerment and positive outlook for the local area. This second phase of the trail is due for completion late 2007
